Development Manager

Role Purpose:


The Development Manager works hand in hand with the Head of Development leading a number of teams of software engineers, designing, developing and testing different areas of the state-of-the-art gaming platform. He/she is responsible for the overall development lifecycle of our platforms and solutions, delivering to our customers a cutting-edge experience with unique features in our sector. Additionally, the role requires hiring, developing, and helping engineers and team leads to meet and exceed their career goals.


Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Managing a number of cross-functional teams in the Development department, scaling teams according to business needs.
  • Providing technical leadership, direction and mentoring for multi-disciplined software-focused teams.
  • Performing line management duties, including recruitment, reviews, 1-1 meetings, motivating, conflict resolution and performance management.
  • Working collaboratively with other Heads and Leads to draw out the big picture architectural vision of the product, and help driving tech initiatives.
  • Managing the technical debt and growing codebase so we continuously improve quality and performance, creating and maintaining metrics, KPIs and OKRs.
  • Leading functional design reviews and provide continuous feedback to the team.
  • Cooperating with multiple teams and close the gap between stakeholders and developers, being able to look at a problem and come up with practical solutions.
  • Guiding our passionate developers through coaching and mentoring, and continuously find new opportunities to teach the team.
  • Leading design discussions, retrospectives, and empowering teams to find solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Confronting outstanding challenges even when it comes to supporting legacy systems.
  • Reporting on the team’s productivity and constantly strive for self and team improvement.
  • Coordinating design and code reviews within the team to ensure that code meets our quality standards.
  • Leading by example and ensure that all the department policies, processes and guidelines are followed.
  • Managing resolutions, and escalation paths for live production incidents
  • Taking large, complex projects and break them down into manageable tasks, develop functional specifications, then work with the development leads to deliver them in a successful and timely manner
  • Instilling best practices for software development and deliver high-quality products on tight schedules.
  • Any other task/responsibility which may be related and/or connected to the role of Head of Development


Knowledge, Experience & Skills


  • Experienced in the gaming industry and working with remote teams
  • Bachelor’s (preferred Master’s degree) in computer science or a related discipline
  • Strong leadership experience having led software development teams
  • Demonstrable experience in project management having managed multiple parallel projects within tight timeframes
  • Experience in establishing automated testing and CI
  • Solid understanding of the development and QA processes including DevOps practices
  • Demonstrable background in software development architecture, where PHP is considered as an asset
  • Ability to multi-task and rapidly switch contexts, motivated by a fast-paced and highly entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to take initiative, while aware of the accountability and leadership responsibility that comes with it
  • Act as an approachable person with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine interest in supporting people and finding creative solutions
